These days children are expected to know and experience every aspect of the school experience before they ever step foot inside a classroom. There are many ways to prepare your child or Kindergarten, yet most parents will forget to teach their child at least one vital skill they are expected to know before they start Kindergarten. It is never too early to establish good study habits and organizational skills. Is your child prepared?
HBES provides custom assessments, learning kits, resources and
lessons to prepare you and your child for Kindergarten.
Ages 3-5
Across Minnesota, children in grades K-6 are learning general studies to establish well-rounded education. However, when economic times get tough, schools are forced to cut-back, leaving the students and their learning to suffer. That is where HBES can help!
Children learn fundamental skills in Kindergarten continuing through second grade. They then start to learn more advanced concepts in third and fourth grade. Also, in third grade, students are beginning the state testing processes and being taught the skills to help them score well on the tests. This is the most common year for students to start "falling off" the boat. Get help for your child before it is too late!

Middle School mathematics introduce concepts such as absolute value, irrational numbers, algorithms, pre-algebra, geometry, exponents, calculating interest, ratios, and more. These skills establish the foundation for high school mathematics courses.
Students are given homework to practice the concepts they learned throughout the school day and to keep them sharp on vocabulary and reading skills. From major projects to the daily math and spelling sheets, HBES is here for you! We can help your child manage his/her homework, create good organizational skills and study habits.

High School is a time of transition from childhood to adulthood - in social, emotional, and academic aspects of life. High School literary arts programs are no different. At this level, students are more capable of analyzing literature with more abstract themes and philosophical thinking. It is at this time that students develop how literature can affect and reflect history and culture. Students at this level focus on classic literature, adult prose, and poetry. Writing concepts in high school include everything taught in middle school, but at a higher level. They will also start to collect more of their own work to create autobiographies, resumes, and portfolios that could be used for college and/or career purposes.

The Minnesota Comprehensive Assessments (MCAs) are the state tests that help districts measure student progress toward Minnesota's academic standards. These tests are requirements of No Child Left Behind (NCLB). Reading and mathematics tests are given in grades 3-8, 10 and 11. Science tests are given in grades 5 and 8 and once in high school, depending on when students complete classes in life sciences.
The MAP tests are computer-based tests that measure the academic growth of your child. As your child completes questions, the assessment adjusts the difficulty based on your child's response. The test continues to adjust until your child reaches difficulty. The result is the measurement of what your child has learned.
All MAP and MAP for Science assessments are aligned to
state standards; national curriculum standards were used in
creating the items for MAP for Primary Grades assessments.
